The monitor’s advertised maximum is not automatically the maximum of every input. In this example, the target is the monitor’s native 2560 × 1440 picture with RGB 8-bit SDR. The Dell manual lists different top refresh rates for HDMI and DisplayPort.

ConnectionConfirmed native setting
HDMI · Premium High Speed2560 × 1440 / 144Hz
DisplayPort · VESA2560 × 1440 / 165Hz

What the yellow result means

With the checked HDMI output and a Premium High Speed cable, the comparison confirms 144Hz. It is yellow because this input cannot use the monitor’s 165Hz maximum. Replacing that cable with a more expensive HDMI cable does not remove this monitor-input limit.

The checked alternative

The same researched card’s DP output and a VESA-certified DP cable cover the Dell mode at 165Hz. The tool therefore offers a DP alternative. This conclusion uses the exact board, the Dell mode table and a known cable category; it is not a claim about every RTX 2070 board or an unknown cable.

After connecting, select the desired rate in Windows Advanced display settings. The checker does not change that setting or read the current cable signal. If the option is missing, use the troubleshooting guide and compare the exact labels rather than treating the green result as a measurement.
