Choose for your two products
There is no connector that is always best for every screen. Start with a socket present on both products. Then read the monitor’s supported modes for that input. A higher cable rating cannot add a missing socket or raise the monitor input’s own limit.
Our checker treats HDMI-to-HDMI and DP-to-DP as direct connections. USB-C video, converters and docks introduce another device or negotiated link. Their connector shape alone does not establish the available video capacity, so they are outside the automatic direct-cable check.
Use the actual marking
HDMI cable names include High Speed, Premium High Speed and Ultra High Speed. DisplayPort certification labels include standard VESA certification, DP8K and higher UHBR categories. Match the label on the cable or package with the checker. Do not turn a shop title such as “gaming cable” into a verified certification.
When you do not know the rating
Choose marking unknown. For researched products, the result can still tell you whether the physical connectors fit, while keeping the maximum setting unconfirmed. A suggested cable is a checked option for the result’s setting, not a claim that every other cable fails. Higher certified categories may support more than this conservative calculator currently confirms.
